If you know me, you know I am an avid hand sewer. Between English paper piecing and turn under applique, I always have my sewing in hand. One of the most asked questions I get is what do I have in my handy dandy sewing kit? What are my must haves? My can't be with-outs?! Well ask no more! Here is my top 5 must haves for hand sewing!

My Top 5 Must Haves for Hand Sewing

Yazzi Craft Folding Kit

My Yazzi Folding bag has been a lifesaver for my smaller hand sewing projects! It sits really nicely over the arm of a chair or a couch and gives you easy access to all your goodies.

I sit in the L corner of my couch, so I don't always have easy access to an arm rest. What do I do? I just grab a pillow and throw my Yazzi bag over it!

It's even small enough to fit into my to go bags when I've got a kiddo playdate or track meet. Click the link below to snag your Yazzi bag, and use the code Sondrasa for 10% off your purchase! Have you ever used a Yazzi bag? let me know in the comments below, and if you have, which one is your favorite to use?! I can't ever seem to decide on just one!

Aurifil Threads

My go to thread for years has been Aurifil. It doesn't matter if I'm machine piecing, quilting, or hand sewing, Aurifil has got me covered. Of course, the wide array of vivid colors doesn't hurt either! The wide selection of colors makes it easy for me to color match to my applique or English paper piecing to make my stiches nearly invisible!

Sue Spargo Gold Eye Needles

Who better to trust my hand sewing needle selection to than Sue Spargo? Know far and wide as the authority of embroidery stitching, she's also a marvelous applique artist of both wool and fabric. I got turned on to these needles from my mother who is an avid Sue Spargo fan, (maybe fanatic is a better word for it?). She has participated in several Block of the Month projects, and she is never caught without her needles.

Tula Pink Hardware

One thing that is never far from me, whether that's hand sewing or machine sewing, is my trusty snips. Of course you know me, I couldn't help but go for the Tula Pink rainbow metal!! However, these snips aren't just another pretty face in the sewing room, they are a dependable and essential part of my hand sewing tool kit.

Leather Thimble

I'll be honest, I never use to be a thimble gal. They always felt clunky, and more often then not, they'd be more of a nuisance than a help. That is until I found these leather thimbles from Little House at H+H Americas. These thimbles actually go far enough down my finger to protect it from where my needle digs at the second digit of my middle finger.
